History

Cypriots in the City (CITC) was founded on 25 June 2005 by Phanos Theophanous and George Rologis, then young Cypriot professionals beginning their careers in London. Their vision was simple but pioneering: to bring together Cypriots working in the City of London, creating a community for professional networking, knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The first gathering took place at Lemonia in Primrose Hill, bringing together 35 Cypriots. As Cyprus joined the European Union and the Cypriot professional community in London grew, so too did CITC. Alexis Pantazis took over the initiative in 2007, helping to develop it further. Phanos, George and Alexis remain members of the CITC Advisory Board.

Over more than two decades, CITC has developed from a small London initiative into a global network connecting Cypriot professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders across industries and generations. It has organised and supported numerous industry forums, panel discussions and professional events, bringing together distinguished figures from Cyprus and the UK, including senior government, financial-services and business leaders.

CITC also established its pioneering mentoring programme in 2020, supporting the next generation of Cypriot professionals and students, and in May 2024 launched the CITC – Cyprus Technology Network, connecting Cypriots across the international technology and innovation ecosystem.

Today, Cypriots in the City is an established bridge between Cyprus and the UK’s financial and professional communities, connecting people, creating opportunities and strengthening the global Cypriot professional network.

Its enduring mission remains at the heart of everything it does: Connect. Inspire. Empower.
